Synopsis

Thy Brother's Wife

David Christner

Published by Cyberpress

3 Male 2 Female

This award-winning play is written in the idiom of 1825 Quaker Nantucket and details the wedding day of Haddie Starbuck 24, a woman twice widowed from whalers

It is to the older brother of her two previous husbands that she now prepares to marry

Then two ships arrive - in addition to whale oil, they carry Haddie's two lost husbands, long since given up for dead

The perplexities posed by their return prompt Haddie to examine her role as a woman and a thinker in this liberated Society of Friends

Can she find her own voice in the insular world of Quaker Nantucket?

Or must she leave to find her own place in the world?
