In this play a woman has everything she wants except a child

Rachel has located a poor couple who have agreed to let their next child be adopted by Rachel and her husband

Desperate for a healthy baby, Rachel is paying for prenatal care and the hospital expenses

She is appalled to find that the mother is not eating correctly and she is shocked when the father comes on to her when he is not seething with resentment

The arrangement nearly falls through, but by the second act is back on track

However, the baby possibly suffered brain damage during the difficult birth

Wanda's husband backs away but Rachel wants the baby anyway, wants to take the chance

In the end, the childless couple leaves the baby's parents with another mouth to feed
