"Expatriate writer Robert Lord, domiciled in New York, has a fine homecoming (to New Zealand) with his black comic farce.... COUNTRY COPS is set in a police station in small-town New Zealand. Jasper Sharp is sent from the city to solve a murder which the two local constables Bert and Trev have pigeon-holed because of more pressing matters. In Trev's case, it's the outcome of an amorous dalliance with Bert's wife Lynette after a riverside drive one evening. Enter prime suspects Wally, the local idiot, and Adam, the local magnate [both played by the same actor], and Hortensia, amateur writer and tragedienne [played by the same actress that plays Lynette], and the plot power drives to a zestful finale..." Nic., Variety, review of the Circa Theatre production in Wellington, New Zealand

The American premiere was at the Dorset Theater Festival, VT Five men, two women, although doubling can add to the comic effect
