It's Election night and John Sampson - underdog Senate candidate, largely ignored by the press - now seems to be on the verge of a stunning upset, aided by his cynical campaign manager Duane Ballast and his finance chair, Phyllis Stoltz

But there is a ghost in Sampson's past

As Sampson, Ballast, and aide Ellen Tapley celebrate their victory, Stoltz arrives, revealing that "her people" selected Sampson as someone they could control

Stoltz dictates a victory speech with accusations of militarism and treason at the highest levels

Sampson resists Stoltz weakly and at first gives in

But he finally exposes Stoltz' scheme, and is redeemed
