It is 1964 in the Yorkshire Dales, England

A reporter interviews an old soldier hoping to get a memory or two for her article commemorating the anniversary of the First World War

Whats he tells her is the story of three brothers scraping a living as miners in the Dales, whose lives are changed forever when they take the "Kings Shilling" and leave to fight on the Western front

It is a tale of contrast and contradiction - honesty and deceit, loyalty and betrayal, love and despair, retribution and absolution

And finally forgiveness and re-union
