Katharine Hepburn returned triumphantly to Broadway as Mrs Basil, a rich old lady living in a decaying English country house

She has a lesbian, alcoholic cook who levitates and a grandson who is down from Oxford with a group that includes a left-wing lesbian and her mulatto girlfriend

The grandson proposes to the girlfriend who accepts because she covets the estate. Years later, they return and Mrs Basil gives them her house and joins the cook in a nearby asylum
