An English Heaven - It is 7.30 a.m. on 1st July 1916. A group of women and girls from
Cast : 8 All female. Suggested Age Range : 15 upwards.
Running Time : 30 minutes. Set : Interior of a village post office / shop, during World War One.
Is There Honey Still? - Later in 1916. A group of young VAD nurses from very
different backgrounds are thrust together in a dressing station near the battlefields of
the Somme during the First World War. They unite in facing up to the realities of war -
which affect some of them far more directly than just through the men they are treating.
The thought of the ‘honey for tea’, which they have left behind in England, is a long way
away.
Cast : 9 All female. Suggested Age Range : 15 upwards - Running Time : 35 minutes.
Set : A World War One dressing station; camp beds and orange boxes.
These two plays are complete in themselves but there is some overlap of characters and
they can therefore be played in tandem.
the village call in for letters from their menfolk - husbands, fathers, brothers,
sweethearts - all away at the Front, serving in the local regiment. Their own concerns are
foremost: planned weddings, new babies, work and managing while the men are away; but within
half an hour events abroad will have changed their lives.
